“Community Unity” Obelisk tile project

The Creativity Unlimited Arts Council invites you to join in the city wide art project. We will be painting 1,920 tiles that will be placed on 5 obelisks and installed through out the city of North Platte. Using the Community Unity theme, create your design on a 6 inch square piece of paper color it in, and bring it to one of the painting sessions. All supplies are furnished. A small donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students will kindly be accepted. Your tile will not only enhance these art structures but you will also be leaving a small legacy of what you love about your community.  Read full story and see CURRENT SCHEDULE here.

1913 POST OFFICE/ART CENTER

The Nebraska DEQ is conducting a “phase 1” environmental study of the building for possible contaminants. This will likely be followed by a “phase 2” study conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency. These delays are frustrating, but necessary. The best estimate these officials give us is that we may possibly take possession of the building sometime in September, if no harmful contamination is found. Even if there are some problems, they shouldn’t prevent us from beginning renovation on the first floor and up at that time.

Pledge fulfillments and additional donations continue to come in. Even though we reached our initial fundraising goal, it will take substantially more to complete the renovation. If you know of anyone who is interested in donating to the project, please have them call Muriel at 308-532-4729.

PAST EVENTS

Annual Herb Market and Boutique a success May 3rd and 4th

The final tally isn’t available yet, but it looks like we made well over $4,500.00 this year, which is earmarked for the Building Fund. Thank you to all who helped create the garden art, helped set up and work at the sale, and who bought art and herbs!
The herbs to be sold at the 2008 Herb Market grew well, along with a crop of cleaver ideas on other items to sell at the annual fundraiser.
Creativity Unlimited Arts Council will feature two Adirondack lawn chairs, by artists Patsy Smith and Artist Kay Cooper, at the its annual Herb Market on May 3 and 4 in North Platte.
CUAC members have been busy creating items such as sand castings, garden baskets for Mother’s Day gift, copper and clay plant markers, dragonflies, butterflies, gourd birdhouses and garden goddesses, and handmade stepping stones. Artist Beth Turner will sell her Yarden Art with part of the proceeds going to CUAC. Waldenbooks will once again partner to CUAC to provide gardening books and books on designing herb gardens, growing and harvesting herbs and cooking with herbs.
The sale will also include hypertufa pots, made out of cement, peat moss and vermiculite.
The herb and plant collection, developed under the direction of Master Gardener Ruth Carson, will include dill, rosemary, thyme, Greek oregano, sage, lavender, marjoram, cilantro, sweet and Genovese basil, chives, curly and Italian parsley, Mexican and French tarragon, variety of heirloom tomato plants.
The Herb Market and Boutique will be at the CUAC parking lot at 312 S. Dewey from the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The event is being chaired by Ruth Carson and Cheri Erickson.
